New research from market intelligence agency Mintel indicates that consumers are not only well aware of food packaging and its effects on their consumer habits, but they also know what they'd like to see more of in the future.
"Our research shows that reducing food waste is top of mind for consumers," stated John Owen, senior food and drink analyst at Mintel, according to Food Business News.
Eighty percent of respondents believe that reducing waste is a major concern and one that needs to be addressed. Nearly a quarter of consumers believe that labeling needs to be clearer about how to recycle products. Owen said this actually creates openings for companies that are trying to improve their operations and offerings through label manufacturing and distribution.
"This presents opportunities for food brands and retailers to address these concerns through innovative packaging and product messaging," said Owen. "The prevention of food waste can be positioned not only as a good way for consumers to save money, but also as a way to work toward reversing the growing food waste trend through conscious consumption."
Staying onto of these trends can help food packaging industries jump ahead of competitors and also satisfy customers' needs. For those who are already making changes, why not add a high-performing food labeling printer like the Afinia L801 Memjet Color Label Printer? This industry-leading printer prints up to 60 feet of full-color labels per minute. This is the perfect machine to help you bring your labels to life and attract more customers to products. It's also a great tool to use if you're switching up your labeling to reflect changes in preference.
