It’s always been difficult to prepare a large holiday meal, let alone entertain countless guests. But hosts have to worry about an array of other things, such as guests’ dietary restrictions.
Here are four ways to address food restrictions at this year’s holiday feast
1. Reach Out to Guests
Before hosting, ask guests if they have food or dietary restrictions. This information will play a huge role in helping you shop and prepare your meal.
Ensure those who have limitations that you’ll prepare alternative food choices, and that you’ll clearly label foods they can eat. Doing so will go a long way to keeping guests happy and feeling welcomed.
2. Gain Input
Talk with guests who have restrictions about what you should purchase. This is a great way to not only guarantee they’ll be content with the spread, but also encourage friends and family to get involved. After all, aren’t the holidays all about spending time with them?
3. Shop for the Right Foods
The federal government recently passed a law that requires food manufactures to label Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs). When you’re shopping for food, look for items that aren’t GMOs. Organic or natural foods will keep guests happy. If you’ve never shopped for these foods before, bring a friend along. He or she can help make the decision process go smoother.
4. Don’t Forget About the Ingredients
Purchasing canned foods or whole food items (turkeys) is one thing, but cooking homemade plates are another. Ask guests to not only list the types of foods they’re allergic to (or avoiding), but also the ingredients they can’t eat. Before the event, notify them about the types of items you plan on serving as well as the ingredients used in each.
It’s not difficult to address food restrictions during the holidays. You just need to understand how to go about doing so.
