We’re halfway through 2020 and Epson has stopp production of its GHS workhorse, the Epson GP-C831 color label printer, which has reach its end of life. If your existing Epson GP-C831 is in good shape, you could get years of use out of it from here on out, and supplies will remain readily available for years to come. On the other hand, if you need a new industrial label printer, the C831 is officially off the table.
Fortunately, Epson has a new 8-inch GHS label printer you’ll want to check out. It’s the Epson ColorWorks C6500 color label printer, which comes in two versions:
- CW-C6500A – Includes an auto cutter
- CW-C6500P – Includes a peeler
Closely related, Epson’s new CW-C6000A (auto cutter) and CW-C6000P (peeler) color label printers offer the same general features but in 4-inch widths.
About the Epson CW-C6500
The Epson CW-C6500 is the intend replacement for the C831. It prints 8-inch full color GHS BS5609 chemical labels on demand. It also prints all kinds of industrial labels, tags, barcodes, wristbands, agriculture stakes, tickets, and more. Like the C831, it uses Epson pigment ink cartridges and a wide variety of label media to produce durable, water-, oil-, and chemical-resistant labels on demand.
The CW-C6500 is even faster and higher resolution than the C831 thanks to newer inkjet technology (Epson Serial PrecisionCore TFP). It prints 1200 dpi labels and can reach speeds of up to 5 inches per second.
Depending on how you intend to use the Epson ColorWorks C6500 color label printer, you could choose either the auto cutter or peeler model. The auto cutter cuts labels as they are print whereas the peeler model is use for “peel and present” applications.
This new color label printer is design to compete with industrial thermal label printers. Which are commonly use for high volume barcode labeling applications. Thus, the Epson ColorWorks C6500 includes features the C831 lacks such as remote printer management tools, integrations with SAP and other middleware, and an applicator I/O controller port. It works with Windows, Mac, and Linux and supports ESC/Label and ZPL II interfaces.
